CALPRODUCT-NS-009: NISP-S Wavelength Transfer to Self-cal

Parent requirement

Scheduling

Once during PV phase, and after 1 year of science operations.

Time-critical

Yes. Must be executed immediately before or after CALPRODUCT-NS-008: NISP-S Wavelength Dispersion with Planetary Nebulae.

Objective

The wavelength dispersion is established using observations of a planetary nebula (CALPRODUCT-NS-008: NISP-S Wavelength Dispersion with Planetary Nebulae).

To provide an independent check of the wavelength dispersion solution on a regular basis, the solution must be transfered to the Self-cal field by identifying suitable secondary standards. The latter can be point-like extra-galactic emission-line sources, as well as stars with high-S/N emission and absorption lines.

The observations of the Self-cal field must immediately follow (or precede) the observations of the planetary nebula. Otherwise, changes in the thermal state of the telescope may alter the wavelength dispersion before it can be transferred to the Self-cal field.
