CALBLOCK-PV-010: NISP LED flats

Observation configuration file

Scheduling

Once, early during PV phase.

In case of failure, repeat at next possible opportunity.

Time-critical

Must be executed at least one week before CALBLOCK-PV-016: NISP Persistence.

Objective

Obtain NISP LED flats for all 5 LEDs at fluences of 4, 9, 16, 25, and 32 kADU (above the 10 kADU baseline, and in the FPA corners). The highest fluence deviates from the quadratic scaling to avoid saturation in the last group of the ramp and in the center of the focal plane, where NI-CU fluxes are 10% higher than in the corners. These flats will also serve calibration of the brighter-fatter effect. During routine calibrations, flats will be taken at 16 kADU fluence, only.

Observations

Parallel schedule suggestion: CALBLOCK-PV-024: VIS On-sky Nonlinearity

Take 30 flats (to allow for burn-in and cosmic rejection) per LED setting using the photo-MACC mode. A waiting time for LED flux stabilization is not required. Persistence / burn-in is assumed to stabilize to a steady state over the execution time of the procedure for each LED setting. Exposures must be obtained continuously.

The LED flux levels are adjusted such that we can use the photo-MACC mode. This matches the wide survey mode and eliminates the need for additional, matching darks. The electron fluxes are 90, 200, 360, 570, and 730 e-/s.

The length of the dark duration after the highest fluence must be at least 4.5h so that the persistence flux can decay to less than 0.023 e-/s/pixel (R-CAL-B-NP-1476).

Observation instructions 23: NISP LED sequence. Dither slews to accommodate HGA repointing max every 3000s are introduced by SOC.

Fulfilling

CALPRODUCT-NI-010: NISP LED Flats

CALPRODUCT-NI-003: NISP Brighter-fatter Effect

CALPRODUCT-NI-001: NISP Bad Pixel Map

CALPRODUCT-NI-009: NISP Inoculation (DEACTIVATED) (partially; effect probably not detectable after a few hours)

Targets and pointing constraints

Pointing: Straylight suppression as per MOCDA-SYS-003.

Instrument configuration

Instrument: NISP in flat-field configuration

In-orbit duration

In-orbit Duration: 27.8 h

111s for photo-MACC, 30 frames per LED, 5 fluences for each of 5 LEDs.

111s *30*5*5 = 23.1 h for the flats

565s *30 = 4.7 h for the darks

Data volume

750*NP + 30*NS = 49140 MB

Processing input

Ground Processing Input Data: TBD

Data Description: 750 photo-MACC NISP flats, 30 NISP spectro darks

Processing tools

TBD

Validation

The fluence should be within 5 kADU of the targeted values, and the spatial irradiance as expected (approximately 10% drop-off from the center to the field corner).

Recovery

Repeat at next opportunity.
